Luis Díaz Requests Surprising Liverpool Contract Extension Amid Growing Interest

In a move that has caught many by surprise, Colombian winger Luis Díaz has formally requested a contract extension with Liverpool, despite his current deal running until 2027. While much of the focus at Anfield has been on the potential renewals of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Díaz’s request has become one of the club’s pressing concerns.

Díaz, who is currently earning approximately £55k a week, is reportedly seeking a significant pay raise, with sources indicating that he is aiming for a deal that would see him earn over €150k per week

This would mark a substantial increase in his salary, positioning him among the highest earners at Liverpool.

While his current contract runs until 2027, Díaz, who has been a key figure in Jurgen Klopp’s setup, has made it clear that he feels his contributions warrant improved terms

His performances have been stellar, and with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona showing interest, the winger is keen to secure his future at Anfield

Liverpool, although initially taken aback by the timing of the request, are open to discussions, especially given Díaz’s importance to the team. However, with other priority contracts on the table, such as Salah and Alexander-Arnold, it remains to be seen how quickly the club can address Díaz’s demands

As the 2024-2025 season continues, Díaz’s future at Liverpool looks increasingly secure, though the terms of his next contract are still up in the air. The situation has certainly added an interesting layer to the club’s ongoing transfer and contract talks.
